Tao Bao, or not Tao Bao? - Selling Your Goods on China’s E-Commerce Market
May 23 2012 - 08.30 AM - Shanghai
Join AustCham, CanCham Shanghai and guest speakers Frank Lavin, Founder and Chairman of Export Now and Alex Chu, Business Development Manager of Tmall/Taobao for a breakfast seminar on how foreign companies in China can sell their goods on the world's largest e-commerce platform and achieve national distribution in China with a minimal cost.
E-commerce has emerged as one of the most important distribution channels in the world, providing inexpensive and reliable consumer choices to millions of people who prefer the convenience of online shopping. Nowhere is this truer than in China, where Taobao, with its B2C branch TMall, have established themselves as the largest e-commerce site in the world, setting the benchmark for quality and customer satisfaction. Additionally, e-commerce offers the producer immediate national distribution, as well as flexibility in product slate, pricing, and sales or promotional activity.
However, foreign companies in particular are not able to take advantage of the enormous e-commerce opportunity in China. The need for specialized fulfillment operations, CRM and warehouse support can be too large a burden for management and finances.

Joint Chamber HR Workshop Series: Recruitment and Selection (Limited places available)
May 24 2012 - 02.00 PM - Shanghai
AustCham Shanghai and BritCham Shanghai are delighted to launch their Joint Chamber HR Workshop Series that aims to bring HR professionals and those working in roles that incorporate HR business functions for professional development workshop on different areas of Human Resources. We aim to hold 4 workshops a year in partnership with Shi Bisset & Associates.
The Series' inaugural event will focus on equipping attendees with tools towards a more efficient recruitment process and selection of higher quality candidates. The two main focus areas will be writing better job descriptions and an introduction to the S.T.A.R interviewing technique.
A good job description is a roadmap for the candidate or employee to clearly understand his role within the organisation as his deliverables. For the employer, a job description provides a standardized framework that allows them to manage and evaluate performance. Having a good job description at the beginning of recruitment process ensures the best candidate is selected.
More and more organisations have begun using behavioral interviewing in their hiring process. The basic premise behind behavioral interviewing is this: the most accurate predictor of future performance is past performance in a similar situation. S.T.A.R is a proven behavioral interview technique that uses your time efficiently and allows multiple interviewers to correlate results easily. After learning this technique, you will be able to confidently choose the right job candidates to grow your teams and ensure your success.
